This work was made during a workshop conducted by artist and performer I.Ernst, on the subject of the scientifically investigating artist, during the Spacestrategies Master program of the Kunsthochschule Weißensee. Sauen is a small village in north-eastern Brandenburg.
On the morning of the 30th of March 2008, I sat down in a small hunter shelter. Just a chair, a table, the landscape and me. A sheet of paper filled the table in front of me, on which I drew my ‘being there’ during that day: a mirror of my existence.
I drew all day, starting with my own body on the bottom of the paper, finishing with the outside world, also I was writing down thoughts that came up:
Erstmal muß ich meine Position definieren. Still sitzen bleiben, gucken. Die Dinge zeichnen ist ein Tasten, einen Kompromis, zwischen meinen Körper und den Raum. Es gibt meinen Körperraum und der Tastraum um meinen Körper rum. Da draußen gibt es der Sehraum, denn der Blick sucht die Ferne, schweift weg vom Körper.
Hier sitze ich alleine, eingekapselt und nicht imstande Kontakt zu haben, zurückgezogen, sehend. Erstmal muß ich wissen wo ich bin.
After the drawing was done, I left it there in the hut. I made a small announcement in the village of Sauen for people to go and see it.
