Artist Statement
I often work in public space, and I develop my works ‘in situ’, adapting to the surroundings and the situation. Mostly, I am present myself, I interact with the public and ‘live’ the work. This public can be an art public, but more so I prefer working with a non- art public. The actual artwork is often taken home piece by piece by the public, or only exists because of an interaction with the public, disappearing afterwards, remaining only a memory.
I try to make my work accessible, by working with and mirroring common but unspoken moments and themes. In my last works, being conscious of my own position has played an important role. In a virtualized world, where space is not stabile anymore, the only thing I can ever be sure of is my own position. For that I need a clear perception of my surroundings. Also, often the public can switch positions with me in the work, to enable it to take my perspective as an artist. By this the public is made more conscious about his or her own position. |
